At Limitless Dental, we offer the option of take-home teeth whitening kits, with regular check-ins to make sure you’re on track. While there are beauty salons that also offer teeth whitening, it is recommended that you seek this form of treatment with a dental professional.
What discolours your teeth?
Overtime, your teeth can become stained from daily food and drink. The main culprits are brightly coloured food (think beetroot, certain spices, hard candy), acidic fruit, coffee and red wine. Consuming highly acidic and/or sugary foods and drinks will wear off the outer enamel of your tooth. Smoking will also discolour your teeth.
Am I eligible for teeth whitening?
Given the use of small doses of highly concentrated bleaching products, teeth whitening may be unsuitable for your if you:
- Have sensitive teeth or cracks in your teeth
- Have gum disease
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have fixed braces to your teeth

What’s the process for teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening involves bleaching teeth with a gel that contains a small percentage of hydrogen peroxide. This breaks down superficial stains on the outer surface of the tooth, as well as those found within the tooth.
At Limitless Dental, we offer take-home kits which are designed to steadily whiten your teeth over a period of a week or two. Once we’ve examined your teeth and completed any requisite treatment, we take a digital scan of your teeth to create trays (similar to mouthguards) as part of your kit.
Each night, you’ll apply a certain amount of bleaching gel in the tray and wear it overnight. The duration of the treatment will depend on the shade of white you’re aiming for, however we recommend only a maximum of 3 weeks worth of treatment.
What’s the aftercare like?
While completing your at-home treatment, you may experience slight sensitivity to temperature (hot/cold). It’s important that during treatment, you only use white toothpaste and maintain your dental hygiene routine as per normal.
During and after treatment, the only rule to stand by is to only eat or drink things that wouldn’t stain a white shirt for the first week. A clear-ish diet (temporarily) will help avoid re-staining your teeth and prevent any further irritation to your teeth and gums. Take-home whitening kits tend to last a few months after treatment.
